She’s known for starring in famous films like The Last of the Mohicans alongside Daniel Day-Lewis and many others, but Madeleine Stowe eventually retired from film work in 2003 and today, focuses primarily on television roles.

The actress has been celebrated as one of the most beautiful people in the world and starred in the hit television series Revenge from 2011 to 2015. After another short series called Soundtrack streamed on Netflix, Stowe has again taken a step back from Hollywood and serves on the Artists for Peace and Justice nonprofit board.

Bad Girls – $15 Million

The action and adventure flick stars Stowe along with female powerhouses Andie MacDowell, Drew Barrymore and Mary Stuart Masterson. The four women play former prostitutes on the run following a justifiable homicide and prison escape, eventually taking on the Old West. Stowe later said she didn’t care for the film, but it did bring her to Texas, the state in which she now resides with her husband and daughter.

Revenge – $16 Million

A retired US Navy pilot (Kevin Costner) falls in love with the wife of a powerful businessman. Though the box office numbers weren’t as successful as one might hope, the film sparks a television series nearly two decades later that proves to be a big hit. Stowe stars in both and her character isn’t afraid to take revenge on those she cares about.

The 1994 film follows a young woman (Stowe) who has been blinded at the abusive hands of her mother as a girl. After an operation, she has regained sight but can only remember what she’s seen hours after first seeing them. After seeing what she thinks is a person who has murdered her neighbor the mystery ensues. Stowe plays opposite her common co-star Aidan Quinn.

Unlawful Entry – $57 Million

The crime drama features Stowe as the leading lady who has a burglar hold a knife to her throat, while her husband does nothing. The couple befriend a lonely policeman, only for him to develop feelings for Stowe’s character. Co-stars Kurt Russell and Ray Liotta bring the action in a fight to the end.

12 Monkeys – $57 Million

Later in her career, Stowe stars with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt in a sci-fi thriller that gained popularity across generations. While it wasn't the biggest hit at the box office, the film has become a cult-classic among sci-fi fans across the world. According to IMDB, the film is about a future world devastated by disease and a convict sent back in time to try to save the planet.

Stakeout – $66 Million

In one of her first Hollywood films, Stowe lands a role alongside Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez as an escaped convict’s ex-girlfriend. The only trouble is, the officer’s fall for her while monitoring her every move. According to Ranker, the 1987 film is one of the top three Stowe films to date.

The Last of the Mohicans – $76 Million

In a film known as a classic today, the box office numbers don’t quite match during its run at the theater. However, Stowe gained critical acclaim for her role as the daughter of a British Colonel in the midst of the French and Indian War who wins the affections of a native resident, Daniel Day-Lewis. Critics were against the drama and romance added to the film, however, those pieces could be a part of the overall success of the semi-historical film.

We Were Soldiers – $78 Million

Based on a true story, the film stars Mel Gibson, Stowe, Greg Kinnear and Sam Elliot during the first major battle of the American phase of the Vietnam War. While audiences learned about the war and enjoyed the action scenes, on the other side of the plot line, Stowe plays one of the many wives waiting at home to hear the good or bad news - a story not often seen on the big screen.

The General’s Daughter – $103 Million

In a hit mystery/crime drama with a star-studded cast, including John Travolta, Timothy Hutton, James Cromwell and Stowe, the film follows an undercover detective who steps into West Point and discovers more than he bargained for. The daughter of a prominent Army general has been found dead and Travolta and Stowe’s characters are left to solve the crime. The film is an adaptation from a novel of the same name by Nellie DeMille.
