World renowned social media platform Twitter is currently conducting an experiment that will allow users to express themselves a lot easier.
Initially Twitter had introduced a 140 character limit for tweets but is now testing a 280 character tweet limit for its users.
In a blog post, Twitter Product Manager, Aliza Rozen highlighted how different languages take up more character space then others.
“When I Tweet in English, I quickly run into the 140 character limit and have to edit my Tweet down so it fits. But when Iku Tweets in Japanese, he doesn’t have the same problem. This is because in languages like Japanese, Korean, and Chinese you can convey about double the amount of information in one character as you can in many other languages, like English, Spanish, Portuguese, or French,” the post read.

According to their research, the character limit was one of the most ‘frustrating’ features for those tweeting in English. They also discovered the more character space people had the more people would tweet!
“Twitter is about brevity. It’s what makes it such a great way to see what’s happening. Tweets get right to the point with the information or thoughts that matter.”
She expressed the companies excitement over the new update and assured users that she would update them its progress.
The company is currently testing the update on a small group of people before launching it for everyone to use.
